On Monday, Library of Congress's Copyright Office ruled out that it's legal for people to jailbreak their phone, iPhone mentioned specifically, although Apple have fought hard against such a decision. Later, Apple states that "jailbreaking" iPhone will void the warranty and make it unstable for the next iOS update. Frankly, if you decide to jailbreak your phone, you all know those facts.
So why people jailbreak their iPhones? Some piss off with AT&T slow and unreliable network and want to use it on other carriers, Verizon for example. Some want to install some apps that iTunes store denied them. Some of them actually are really cool though. For example, My Wi app will turn your iPhone to a Wi-Fi hot-spot. Super convenient when you want to use your laptop and has no Wi-Fi around. However, I am sure that AT&T will not like that idea. It will put more traffic on their data network which is already very slow.
When "jailbreaking" is officially legal, we may see an increasing of efforts to standardize the process to jailbreak an iPhone and install apps denied by Apple store. And I will not surprise if I will see lots of Non-Apple iTunes app stores for jailbroken iPhone. At least XXX apps developers will found a new store themselves :) Could it be resulted in many iPhone owners will want to jailbreak their phones? I bet
