Apple TV next version will be called "iTV" but only supports 720p

Apple TV, the least popular product among Apple's iPhone, iPad, iPod, iTunes, will be re-branched to iTV in the next coming release. As usual, Apple will add more features for it to attract new buyers. However the video quality in iTV is decided to drop to standard quality only, 720p. Current Apple TV supports HD quality, 1080p. So for some people including me, this update is actually a downgrade.

If you have US iTune gift code, you can buy or rent movies or TV shows and watch them directly on your TV through Apple TV. It will be very convenient comparing with renting or buying DVD from local store or even a movie renting service like Netflix. I will bet in the future, movies will be available on iTunes store at the same time they are in movie theaters. If so, watching new releases at your home movie theater will be more fun with your family and friends

Back to the upcoming iTV, the downgrade to 720p video standard quality is due to the limitation of the new chip A4. The good new is iTV will likely have access to App Store which will open the door for hundreds if not thousands of new apps developed for iTV as we have seen in iPad case.
