JailBreakMe dot com, first jailbreaking solution for iPhone 4

When "jailbreaking" became legal in US last week, I commented that it will motivate more efforts to provide jailbreak software and set up non-Apple app store. This week, we see the first wave. JailBreakMe team comes back with the first jailbreak solution for iPhone 4, a web-based approach like they did 3 years ago. This time the site takes advantage of a security breach of Safari browser. The browser loads a PDF file and give over the total control of your iPhone, iPod or iPad, in this case a jailbreak software but maybe in other cases, losing your sensitive data. Though I love the idea of web-based jailbreaking, so simple and easy, I really hope will fix the Safari bug soon before other hackers take advantage of it.

It is worth to note that jailbreaking only allow you to install and run apps that are not proved by Apple App store, not using on a different network. Some because of politics, from rival (Google Voice) or affecting partner AT&T (MyWi - converting your iPhone to a WiFi hotspot so that you can browse Internet on your laptop through your iPhone). So jailbreaking gives you more freedom and risks of course. Your iPhone may not be compatible with future updates of iOS.

What I really like to see is what will Apple do to prevent the waves of jailbreaking software and non-approved apps. They will lose the juice, 30% fee and more important lose their control of the app approval like disapproving Times Warner app this week. In the worst case, app developer will list their apps on non-Apple store to get more profit. At this moment, the best thing Apple can do is saying jailbreaking your iPhone may invalidate your warranty.
